Hi Sandee,
What a kind and thoughtful inquiry! I'm an industrial designer and editor, so
problem-solving is a passion anyway, but I'm not disciplined enough to be a
true researcher. My father was a self-educated man and I grew up believing that
that's one of the gifts of life: that we can all teach ourselves and life is so
incredibly interesting! He taught me much, and in doing so, gave me the joy of
teaching as well.
I would have preferred to be learning/pursuing other interests, now, at the age
of 71, but Lyme has forced me to prioritize my energies. Learning my way out of
a complex, obscure disease is a difficult and sometimes lonely pursuit. I
figure if I can at least benefit others from any of my efforts, it makes it all
a bit less odious. I'm only sharing what I've learned in my own struggle; if
something resonates for someone else, thats wonderful, but this disease is
unique in each person and one size does not fit all! If I can inspire people to
try, to leave no stone unturned, my life has meaning. You've just brought tears
to my eyes, Sandee. Thanks!
