I wonder if this event helped influence the decision to sell surplus foods,
medicines and vaccines to Cuba and other third world countries. Recycling our
rejects?  ==

Subject: CS>Taco Bell recall due to GE

Consumer reports Dec. 2000 issue, page 63 Recalls:
Taco Bell Home Originals taco shells and taco dinner mix

Contains a bioengieered variet of cornnot approved for use in food for human
consumption.

Products: 2.5 to 2.9 million Taco Bell Home Originals Taco Shells and Taco
Bell Home Originals Taco Diner. Recall pertains to any and all products
regardless of date purchased. Products were made by Kraft Foods and sold at
supermarkets nationwide. According to Taco Bell, the taco shell used at the
chain's 7200 restaurants are formulate from a recipe different from Kraft's.
However, Taco Bell is investigating whether the same unapproved corn variety
has found its way into the restaurant products. The Environmental Protetion
Agency had limited the use of the corn in question, known as "Starlink" because
it may be an allergen. however, Avantis, the company responsible for starlink
had canceled its registration for the corn.

Return product to to store for refund. For information, call Kraft at
800-433-9361 or visit the company's we site at www.kraftfoods.com.

    Hi Jules,
In what city did this commercial air? Seems we can't get them to label
products that have a genetically engineered (GE) substance in them, which
also seem to sail right through the FDA approval process like ex-lax! At
this rate, I fear there may be a terrible price to pay down the road
    sometime in the future. Robert
