Edward Cayce claimed that a few almonds a day would prevent cancer.
Anyone know why?"

I suspect Edgar Cayce's claim for almonds was due to the "bitter"
almond being high in the "vitamin" B-17 (laetrile). Today bitter
almonds are no longer available in the U.S. having been replaced by
the currently available almond with it's more palatable taste and
thanks to our all knowing government which has banned the bitter
almond in the U.S. Obviously they know better than we do what is best
for us even as to nuts. Takes one to know one I guess.

Many people now eat apricot kernels as a substitute for the bitter
almond. It contains the most readily available source of this B-17
component.

Obviously, since Cayce never expounded on the reason for eating
almonds, it is also possible that there is another unknown element
contained in almonds that may provide cancer protection. So you may
want to eat almonds regardless.
