What that really means is that the labs you sent samples to don't know how to
do the measurement properly.

A properly calibrated AA is considerly more accurate than a spectrophotometer
and is considered to be a better technique for measuring trace metal
concentration.

An AA will measure total silver without first converting the particles to ionic
form provided the particles are under about 5 microns, which colloidal silver
particles are.

The spectrophotometer will only measure ionic content. To measure the silver in
the particles requires that the particles first be dissolved in acid or
digested to convert the metallic silver into its ionic form.

All in all, an AA is more accurate and a less time consuming procedure than a
spectrophotometer for measuring metal concentration in colloids.
