Re: surface and micelle effect and such; I tried to follow the basics in Hunter's text, but decided I would have to go back to school to grasp the math. Maybe when I finish the paralegal degree. You really get into Hisenberg's effects; just looking changes what you are looking at. If anyone really has a grasp on how CS is made and interacts in various electrolytes, they aren't talking. I tracked down The Journal of Colloidal Chemistry, and started to subscribe; Something like 2K a year. James-Osbourne: Holmes >> James: Back in my metallurgical engineering days, I was very impressed with Autokumpu Oy, a Finnish metallurgical company that produced some of the most sophisticated smelting furnaces of its day. They started after W.W.II, and I presume, had very little financial resources, certainly no money was available for basic research. Yet they were highly successful, selling their furnaces around the world, even to the Japanese, who, BTW, are no slouches when it comes to metallurgical furnace design and construction. The point is, if we put our heads together, I'm sure we could find out what the active species are (is?) in CS and refine existing methods that can best produce it.
