I am not sure who you are replying to since you omitted the original message. I will assume it was mine.
I must not have expressed myself clearly enough. I didn't say that you or anyone else suggested not going for the root cause. What I said was that once a symptom is covered up, there's no motivation to pursue the problem any longer. At least, that is how a majority of people operate. I don't think you can dispute that. Neither have I suggested that suffering ennobles the sufferer. I said that going through the problem (or any problem) while growing up (and later on in life as well) provides an opportunity to grow, in personal sense. A person with acne is not the only one who would like to cure his/her condition fast. Anyone with any condition would. And what you are suggesting is exactly what allopathic medicine has been pursuing -- alleviating symptoms as fast as possible. But a normal (statistically, not meaning healthy or wise) person will not even think of pursuing the problem any further. Once the symptom is gone, so is the problem... or so majority of people would think. And this allows the real problem to get worse. Your approach is not a bad one in theory, but it's not practical.
