You are correct about the Chlortrimeton (brand name of Chlorasomething maleate, I think). Zantac and Cimetidine are also histamine antagonists. However I can't take Cimetidine (or the generic)as it contains iodine. Here is the reference article http://www.postgradmed.com/issues/2001/02_01/krishnaswamy.htm I bless the person who sent me this link, as the combination works way better for me than chlortrimeton alone, and benedryl does nothing unless taken as a preventative when I do not have any symptoms, but expect to be eating something known or suspected to contain iodine. At this point, I may never get to that state again. Though the above article is about urticaria (hives) I often have both hives and eczema at the same time, and the combo of Zantac and chlortrimeton helps control the eczema as well. Here are a couple more links I found helpful http://dermatology.about.com/cs/hives/index.htm http://dermatology.about.com/cs/eczemadermatitis/index.htm Until this latest attack which began in the first week of January this year, I had no idea I had or had ever had eczema. While researching hives, I took a look at the eczema articles and sites also, and had one of those "lightbulb" moments. When this attack was really at its worst, I had both eczema and hives in the same place, all over my stomach, THAT was an experience.......one I don't want to repeat, ever.
