I’ve reported on several forums for a couple of years now about how I’ve
beaten most of my allergies with MSM, Bragg Vinegar, and local raw honey; I’
ve also reported how sleeping on a Crock Device has generally kept my
sinuses clear of nearly everything else.

What I haven’t reported is that there have been a very few but very notable
exceptions of allergy attacks that have occurred mostly at night that I had
not the foggiest notion of a cause.

I’ve finally nailed it down. It has taken 3 distinct and memorable attacks
and one instant of blinding realization, but I’ve got this thing hammered
down now: It is CORN!

CORN CORN CORN CORN CORN!!!!!

I won’t try to bore everyone with all of the specific details of the three
attacks, all of which have happened within the last two months. I’ll try to
keep this to the essentials.

I have generally avoided corn for about 2 years as part of trying to lower
my carb intake, and as part of realizing that whole grains in general are
not good at all for me and my metabolic type, and that modern grains bear
little resemblance to the foods our ancestors ate. But, I am a child of the
American South, and avoiding corn altogether here is dang near impossible.
Why who ever heard of such a stupid thing; corn being bad for you. I grew up
on corn, corn soup, corn on the cob, creamed corn, cornmeal mush, cornbread,
hushpuppies (deep fried corn meal fritters for you non-southerners), and
grits. My grandparents would roll over in their graves if they knew what I’m
saying.

At this time I think grits are not at fault. Grits are ground hominy, which
is corn denuded of its bran and germ by a lye soak. I think it’s the germ,
not the starchy insides of the kernel, to which I’m allergic. Anyway, grits
are nutritionally worthless, and I rarely eat them these days.

But there it is, without going into all the details, I’ve found that I am
very badly allergic to corn.

This goes a long way towards explaining my 17 years of chronic sinusitis,
and may explain some of my lapses of health in the past 5 years of recovery.
Just this past late winter I had 2 months of sickness that I just could not
understand. I have stated on these forums that I thought it was because I
got slack with all of my various health routines. Now however, I distinctly
remember going through a period of eating corn chips back then. Could it be
that I unwittingly set myself up for all of that sickness with my appetite?

To all of you who are dealing with allergies, you’ve got something else to
consider now. It may be what you’re eating as much or more than what you’re
breathing.

Daddybob, a corn eater no more.
