The generator has to sit in the mouth of the jar but not 'fall' in.
 Larger mouth jars can be used if you cut a hole in a plastic coffee can
lid or similar for the gen to sit in. I suppose you could prop it up on a
couple of popsickle sticks or something in a pinch.
Smaller mouth jars can be used by perching the gen on top and filling the
jar all the way up, but that's not very stable.
 It's turned to fit standard canning and mayo jars, fitting and sealing
them like a lid.  With the beaker adapter ring, it'll fit some slightly
larger mouth pickle jars too.
