Evening John,
Ahhh Wayne.... most people don't even know what calipers are - and
usually have very low stock of acrylic, drills, etc.............. :-)
Thanks for reminding me that all solutions do not work for
everyone. Other simpler methods work just as well.
A piece of heavy cardboard with two slotted holes, cut with a pocket
knife or razor knife, works just as well as the method I
described. Actually, this was prototype I before I built the better one.
To solve simple problems, and complex problems alike, the individual
components of the problem must be identified and solved, one by one.
As for amateurs rushing to become experts: We can never know one from the
other today, that requires a village community and generations of
observation.... :-)
That sound good, but some of us live on a desert island and do not
communicate with others when attempting difficult and impossible tasks.
When I worked for the big companies and had a serious technical problem,
I would collect all the data I possibly could, find possible solutions,
call the factory and talk to my technical people.
So many times, I got this one answer, "You are probably right", I finally
decided I was all alone in the world. So, after that, I knew I had to
solve my problems alone.
Even today, when I have unlimited technical support for virtually all
fields of work, original solutions are the order of the day.
Once people begin to depend on technical support from others, they are
doomed to a lifetime of mediocrity, and will never be a super technician.
As someone told me recently, true thinkers and original thinkers are few
and far between.
All we are talking about is a piece of card board with two hole in
it. Sorry I had to make it so complex.
Wayne
