Evening Ode,

It appears that everyone has had this problem.

The difference 2.3 and 2.7 inches is .4 inches.
 If the jar mouth is too samll, it won't fit in..to big and it'll fall in.

   And..... everyone has a solution of sorts.

Here is my solution which was immediately apparent, to me, as soon as I saw the problem.

I used a piece of 1/8 inch acrylic, which I keep in stock in a variety of colors and sizes. Using my calipers, I measured the silver wire, then drilled holes in the acrylic to allow maximum spacing for the jar opening.

I selected a drill bit a thousandths or two larger than the wire. The size of the acrylic is 5 X 5 inches, large enough that nothing falls in or out.

Everything stays where it needs to be, plus the spacing of the electrodes is identical from batch to batch. This principle could be applied to coins or silver strips.

I followed all these, if, but's, and's and maybe's with interest.

Another thing I did, with the very first batch, was to record current flow, relative to time.
I did this for the first 10 or 12 batches.

I knew virtually nothing at the time, and did not read anyplace that I should do this.

I simply wanted to know, and document, what was happening. I used a variety of voltages, up to 72 VDC.

Just like in most endeavors, I am amazed at the confusion of beginners. A beginner does not need to try to be an expert immediately, nor to think like one.

Anyone that does not crawl before he walks is sure to stumble.
