If you have an a bottle/jar/jug cutter (a popular arts & crafts tools in the 1960s) and a free supply of glass bottles and jars, you could make an array of small-scale water distillers for next to no cash outlay. Its just a matter of using four different diameters that can fit inside each other like Russian nesting dolls.
