Sorry Ken, but this way of thinking seems to me to be like wearing
blinders. This IS happening in Europe and Australia as we speak - they
were "sure" as you are below that it wouldn't/couldn't happen, but it is
happening. And FDA does not have to prove that supplements are
dangerous. They don't do the testing. The companies trying to sell
products have to get them approved - have to do their own testing, by
impartial folks - but they have to pay the bill according to tests FDA
sets up. And FDA can arbitrarily say "nope". I'm so frustrated with
this even on regular meds - have a life-threatening condition that
causes my throat to swell shut from time to time. This isn't an
allergy, its caused by a missing enzyme that my body just doesn't
produce enough of - its a genetic condition. The only thing I can do is
go to ER and get blood products that provide the missing enzyme. And
hope I don't get anything dangerous from the blood products, and don't
need to be entubated or worse. Europe has had acute treatments for 15
plus years now, effefctive, safe. FDA won't approve them. Not big
enough market (there are very few of us with this condition) to support
the testing FDA requires, so its not happening.
In terms of alternative treatments, codex will put all the little ma and
pa businesses out of business, as they won't be able to afford the
testing FDA requires. Big corporations will buy out all the little
folk, and it will be just like the world of traditional drugs, once it
can be under their control, under prescription. And the big companies
can make far more on their traditional meds, so amounts of
vitamins/herbs that will be allowed to be sold won't be therapeutic
levels. I still hope/wish/want that there be a way to turn this
around, but it doesn't look likely.... I wish nothing more than that I
might be the one wearing blinders - that don't let me "get" that our
government truly is trustworthy and has our best interests at heart, or
at the very least are simply too busy to pay attention to the
supplements I need. My experience and I'm afraid the facts say
different. Joy
The FDA, etc, would literally have to
prove that 100's of supplements are dangerous or do
nothing. There's no possiblity they can ever prove
that. The courts, juries and judges will never let
something like this happen if so many people use these
products and are helped by them.
I really doubt it very much.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get the FDA to
show copies of their
so called studies showing CS caused skin conditions?
It might be just a
big snow job.

Hi Jim,
I spoke with the Doctor again. She had recommended
some patients get
a nasal spray bottle of CS. They reported back to
her they had been
removed from the shelves. She tells me that the
FDA contacted Whole
Foods and asked them to remove the nasal spray
bottles of CS. She
said that request was complied with but that
regular CS was not
removed from the shelves.
The Vitamin Cottage was also contacted by the FDA
and said they had
studies showing CS caused skin conditions so they
apparently decided
to remove all CS from shelves. I haven't checked
for veracity but am
trying.
If you care to, try calling Whole Foods again and
see about the nasal
spray bottles. Thanks.
