It might be good to mention what could serve as a
generic current-limiting resistor, or range of resistances.

For bullion coin electrodes spaced three inchesd apart,
any resistor from 100 kilohms to 190 kilohms would work
for long brew times, with end-point indicated by the
appearance of a metallic film floating on the surface.

The color-code bands of 100 to 190 kilohms would be
brown for the first (nearest one lead) and yellow for the
third. The second color band is not critical. In a 
worst-case scenario, a suitable resistor can be 
identified this way and removed from a piece of
worthless old electronic junk.
