I should have been more specific, I take evening primrose oil and flaxseed oil in gel capsules (after determinging as best I can that they contain no ingredients to which I am already known to be allergic). Coconut oil does contain valuable fatty acids, but it isn't what I referred to. I should have been clear that I "may" be allergic to coconut oil ingested. And I "may" be allergic to the fatty acid oil supplements I take, but it is very hard to determine. At some point after a flare has come and then quieted down, and I have resumed my normal routine and supplements, I will have another flare, at which time anything and everything is once again suspect, and I'm on very restricted intake and stop nearly all supplements and suspicious foods. It results in me being most of the time in a process of either elimination or challenge to identify the culprit or culprits, which is made even more difficult because an allergic reaction may be due to a combination of things taken together, that are not a problem if taken separately. One of my son's allergists once told us he was allergic to bananas, but only if he consumed anything else with the banana. Eaten alone, they did not cause an allergic reaction.

I use the term essential oils not in a dietary oil sense, but only to refer to pure essential oils usually referred to as aromatherapy oils, but they have far more therapeutic uses than aromatherapy would imply. This is just how *I* use the term essential oil to avoid confusion myself.

I do put several drops of various essential oils in my homemade cream. It also contains CS (EIS--my homemade) as part of the water portion, the rest of the water consists of pure aloevera juice (haven't found a gel yet that I like or that is safe for me), and rose or other hydrosol. For common use not specific to my eczema I often add Rose oil or palmarosa oil with some carrot seed oil. For use on my eczema, I usually use lavender oil, and maybe some myrrh oil. Both are antibacterial, and myrrh is anti-fungal also. The oil portion of the cream is apricot oil, coconut oil, and beeswax. The more wax used the better the cream emulsifies, and the heavier it is, so I use more for my eczema cream than for hand/face cream. I store it in the refrigerator in small containers as even with CS and antibacterial essential oils added it will mold and spoil if kept long term at room temperature. Because of that I also take care to use clean implements to remove cream from the container, instead of using my fingers.

There is always the possibility of any person or animal having an allergic reaction to virtually anything, so caution is necessary when trying/applying anything new. I know I'm not allergic to the oils I use. With the possible exception that coconut oil ingested MAY be a problem for me--topically it is not. It is currently far down my list to be challenged at some future time. Right now I just don't use it in food at all.

With essential oils (my definition) it has been written that a repugnance to the scent of any particular oil may be the body's warning that one should not use that oil. Not sure if this is true, but I don't use oils that smell disgusting to me. However, nearly essential oils (to me) smell pleasantly herby, and not perfumy, with the exception of Rose oil.

The reason I make my own cream is to avoid the perservatives in commercial creams. Plus over the years, no matter how extensive any product's list of ingredients, I have found to my pain that any product can contain unlabelled ingredients, and many do.

Does that answer the question?

I am very aware of those, thank you for the suggestions. I do try to take fatty acid supplements, but they are also possibly involved as allergens,

Do you take these internally or topically? Because if they are in essential oil for, then they may well (are even likely =) to cause reactions, I beleive.
