You should wash, possibly soak, the vegetables in water with a little
soap or detergent and rinse. Spraying or soaking with CS should kill
everything else. The water that you rinse with may even be suspect, so
a CS spray would be good insurance. (You could use the dilute chlorine
route if you want unless you have some objection to the chlorine. You
still may have to wash the crap off the food first... Soap is good.)
Cut out the flower end and the stem end of the fruits and vegetables
before eating, they collect dirt/germs and are hard to sterilize.
Eat the onions and garlic which kill and control intestinal critters and
eat yogurt and other fermented foods which will re-populate the gut
bacteria. This is better advice than avoiding the fresh food. I found
that taking a probiotic supplement like Flora Source regularly will get
you by with very little problem, it competes with the bad bacteria quite
well.
Besides, if you start to come down with something, a cup of CS will kill
it in it's tracks!
Take along my post on making emergency CS in regular water, and make an
emergency CS maker from a 9 volt battery and 2 silver wires that you can
carry with you. (Basically, just swish the electrodes [at 9 volts]
through the cup of water for about 1 minute ;-))
(This advice is from many years living in India, although that was
before CS, at least for me...)

Subject: CS>EIS & Raw Foods

Hello all,
I've accepted a position in Beijing and my internet research of China in
general has revealed that it is highly recommended to NOT eat raw any
un-peeled fruits or veggies in China. The basis for this warning is due
to the Chinese (and other Asians) using "night soil" (human manure) to
fertilize their crops.
I'm vegetarian, eating about 85% of my foods raw. The thought of
returning to a mostly cooked food diet does not appeal to me and I would
like to avoid that if possible.
It has been suggested to me that I should soak the fruit/veggies in a
VERY WEAK solution of bleach and then rinse them off before eating.
My brother, who was stationed in Korea in the military, says this is
what they were instructed to do prior to eating raw produce.
Does anyone know if substituting EIS for the weak bleach solution would
be just as effective in sanitizing the raw produce of all harmful
microbes/parasites?
Ken
