Microbes yes, multi celled parasites, maybe not.
EIS will not kill spoor forming bacterium [like anthrax] until after the spoor hatches.
Some viruses form spoors too.
Soak in warmish CS/EIS for while?

H2O2 ought to kill em all right away.
Ozone "gas" chamber?
UV light chamber?
Blanch the veggies?
Most of these baddies won't survive exposure to sunlight and air for very long.

Properly composted waste is most likely pretty sterile...so then, how night soil is made and used makes a difference.
It's not 'in itself' dangerous.

Hello all,

I've accepted a position in Beijing and my internet research of China in general has revealed that it is highly recommended to NOT eat raw any un-peeled fruits or veggies in China. The basis for this warning is due to the Chinese (and other Asians) using "night soil" (human manure) to fertilize their crops.

I'm vegetarian, eating about 85% of my foods raw. The thought of returning to a mostly cooked food diet does not appeal to me and I would like to avoid that if possible.

It has been suggested to me that I should soak the fruit/veggies in a VERY WEAK solution of bleach and then rinse them off before eating.
My brother, who was stationed in Korea in the military, says this is what they were instructed to do prior to eating raw produce.

Does anyone know if substituting EIS for the weak bleach solution would be just as effective in sanitizing the raw produce of all harmful microbes/parasites?
