I read that the Melatonin levels in the body decrease with age and that is why most elderly people have trouble sleeping. I googled it when a friend suggested it to me to find out more about it. I had trouble staying asleep at night and it helped me. I would suggest that you try the 3 microgram instead of the 1 milligram doses. Sometimes less is more with Melatonin. Also I was told that the stronger doses sometimes cause vivid dreaming.
