I used to toss every toad I found (dozens of them) into the next lot, for a number of years. Finally, they got the message, and have stopped entering my property. (Perhaps the abundance of toad corpses on the other side of the fence dissuaded them.)

When I spied one I would have water spray bottle on hand and some Morton salt. I'd spray the toad then drop a handfull of salt on them. The next time I saw them they were like petrified(dried up).
