Hopefully not!!! If you want to protect yourself against virii, do it on the
machine
that needs protection!
The problems associated with attempting to do Virus Scanning on a "gateway"
(in
this case a "mail gateway") are numerous, including (but not limited to):
1) What kind of virii do you scan for ? PC ? Mac ? BSD-Unix ? Linux ?
OS/390 ?
2) What sort of encodings do you decode to look for said virii ? PKZIP ?
StuffIt ? MIME ? BinHex ? UUEncode ?
3) How often do you update the "patterns" the scanner looks for ?
4) What sort of supercomputer are you going to run this virus-scanning
e-mail gateway on ?
