www.web2mail.com can be used as a mail front end to sims (even uses 
apop).  A few ads, but otherwise free.

Eudora does this on a per-account basis. (no surprise).  It's not 
documented.  (no surprise).

I happen to have an OS X machine in my domain running PortReflector from 
wickedlysimple software.  It just passes traffic from inbound ports to an 
IP and port combination.  in my case xx.xx.xx.xx:10110 = xx.xx.xx.yy:110
