And one thing I missed in the immediate prior post: My problem with the Spamcop BL is not ethical but practical. Spamcop recommends that you not use it, and that's good advice. It is trivially easy for anyone with a small group of friends to cause an address to appear on that list as it is now run, whether there is any spamming from that source or not. Julian trusts his users' judgement and goodwill far more than is reasonable, and it has resulted in multiple non-spamming addresses landing on his BL. Spammers have achieved the listing of people who complained about their spam. Julian knows about this flaw and has said that he will work on fixing it.
