[Summary is ok, it just needs lots of room - my customers love it!]
All my iMacs are 256MB and run MacOS 9.2.1 with Timbuktu 5.2.3 (as they
are remote from my PB while I am in OZ, US or UK)
Bondi: filemaker4(dynamic web pages),
KIU, MacRadius, QuickDNS 3.5 (primary),
SIMS 1.8b8 (primary)
Blueb: WebStar 4.4, KIU, Macjordomo,
QuickDNS 3.5 (secondary), SIMS 1.8b8 (secondary)
Kickoff
Strawb: Cybergauge 4, PageSentry 2.5.2, Summary 2.1
They have not been down for this year except for mains power failure and
"finger problems" (mine). Major stability was achieved at the beginning
of the year with: more memory, KIU and QDNS 3.
My "feeling" (ie no proof: too many factors) is that having an easily
managed DNS (primary and secondary on the same subnet - naughty) seems to
give fewer hassles for MacOS DNS lookups. SIMS does a lot of DNS lookups
with each one appearing to "hang" the OS until it is complete. The
stuttering effect could clearly be seen in TB2 with keyboard/mouse
response times. This is a MacOS <10 DNS problem and only occasionally
talked about. Maybe it is "secret mouse's" business? :-)
