Yes, you are correct in saying that I am asking for any standard interfaces
available for any third party VM servers. To be more specific, If I want to
use my presence server to interface with any third party VM servers, is
there a general way to do it? I don't want a third party VM server to
directly notify the users.

I assume a simple way is to subscribe to the VM for notification for each
user and the VM server keeps sending notify for new messages.

You are referring to a generic model of application server that
collects and distributes asynchronous events as per RFC 3265.
"Presence Server" is a specialization of this type of application
server that only bothers about "presence" base event package and its
template packages.

You are asking for a standard to interface with a non standard for
which there can never be a standard.

Please be more specific on what type of third-party VM Server you are
trying to inter-operate with and its capabilities.
