As a matter of fact, the proxy can have knowledge about the properties of that 
NAT, but that's a separate topic and not related to this issue.

I know in the prefect world all UA's are "smart" and up on the latest specs and 
do the right thing.  And that may be the world for you.  The fact that *some* 
UAC's are smarter is completely moot.  The fact is not *all* UAC's are smart, 
and there are some of us who have to make SIP service work with the dumber 
UAC's as well.  If you don't want to support them that's cool - no one's making 
you.  No one's making you implement anything, so I don't understand the 
consternation.(?)
