The original interdigit timout was explicitly set to 3 seconds (although the underlying VoiceXML engine ignored that and used 5 seconds anyway!), which I felt was too short for dial by name, where the user is searching the keypad for the correct digits to press that matches a number. Once finished spelling, the user can press "#" to stop that timeout and force the system to lookup the digits. It be nice if the prompt mentioned "press #", but it doesn't.
