While looking at config changes - the first several times I installed sipXecs as a noob - I made the assumption that I didn't want to setup sipXecs as a 'real' domain. So I was doing stuff like setting sipXecs up as: voip.gcgov.local - now it is sipx.garrettcounty.org (fqdn) garrettcounty.org as (SRV).
It took me a while to figure out what to put there and why - when the IM part came into play, I had to set it up so it would be publicly available - and to easily support remote workers - and, of course, it required another re-install... So moving that config to the web page and allowing it to be changed without a rebuild would be huge - for the novice and for the experts. So, I agree that this would have made life easier - especially when picking a domain/etc. is done via the console and you have to make a decision that can't be changed - and you have to do it to move the install along. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Geoff Van Brunt Sent: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 10:26 AM To: sipXecs developer discussions Subject: Re: [sipx-dev] Suggestion for DNS improvements within sipXecs >>I'm not sure what you mean by NUI prompt, are you describing the initial config? I agree. My thoughts were to make the DNS Advisor "a part of that wizard". Based on user inputs it would spit out the needed records and instructions on how to create them in Windows and Linux. Also during the wizard it would present the user with the various pros and cons of various DNS setups so they could make an educated decision about what path they want to take. By having all that part of the GUI, you can do a much better job of presenting information to the user.
