Our facilities connect to the Verizon MPLS cloud (and our corporate office) by T1. The Verizon engineer has made it sound like the 'media release' option is a no brainer. I kept telling him I didn't possibly understand how this was going to work without putting some sort of device at each clinic. He said they just have to know what subnets are in use at each facility and the setup makes the SIP traffic go through the server, but the RTP traffic bypasses our server and goes directly to and from the remote site. This powerpoint slide: http://www.transferbigfiles.com/Get.aspx?id=5eab092f-0fee-41e4-bbdd-90f7c7e4c05b (click on Verizon BEST SIP-KL_DSI-1.ppt (3,530 KB) at the bottom) sorry for the annoying link, but I couldn't zip it smaller than 2 meg. Was supposed to clear it all up for me, but parts of it were over my head. I didn't completely understand then how it was supposed to work, and I still don't. I put off that conversation until after my corporate deployment. No matter what I had to do at my remote facilities, I knew I still wanted to choose Sipx for corporate. I thought I would ask here just to make sure it wasn't something obvious I just knew nothing about. My co-worker/network engineer just sent me this link. It seems to be along the same lines. http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+sip+directrtpsetup We definitely do have "endpoints [that can] address each other directly". I have a weekly conference call with Verizon. I will try and get some more details. Sorry for my lack of details....
