A couple of things to watch out for using Audiocodes:
- They do not post docs and firmware on their open website, you have to buy
support (even for a new unit) to get access; they do allow their distributors
to 'give away' the firmware (if you bought it from an official distributor that
might work)
- I think the current firmware (5.8) you get with a new unit doesn't work
with SIPXECS (remembering vaguely from recent list traffic), if you want an
older working release you'll have to 'find' one somewhere (ie: not from
Audiocodes)
- Not all MP- models are supported by SIPX (specifically the mixed FXO/FXS
ones)
- SIPXconfig support is fairly basic, it assumes you want to use all the
ports the same way (mostly matters for FXO)
- If you decide you want to manually configure because sipxecs doesn't
cover the way you want to use it you may want to kill yourself with a dull
butter knife (the configuration is not obvious, and the documentation is of the
'marketing checklist' variety).
That said Audicodes has a good reputation for not being buggy and the units I
had were well made.
I really like the flexibility and reliability of the Pattons; they are not
configured automatically by sipxecs and require some noodling to understand,
but they can do anything and I have yet to run into bugs. The docs are as good
as Cisco's core router/switch docs (examples, concepts, complete). There are
lots of examples on the wiki, for a simple FXS configuration its not too hard
to set up (you can ape what's there pretty easily).
IMO avoid the Linksys/Cisco stuff, the product line is no longer supported by
Linksys development and is basically "dead" (and has tons of protocol level
bugs that irritate sipxecs in various ways). The configuration and
documentation is IMO even worse than audiocodes.
