The Mediant 1000 is rock solid for me. I've never had to restart it or
take the PRI circuit down for any reason. I bought an extra power
supply just in case one blew out (it can take 2 power supplies) but
haven't had an issue yet.
I also agree about the configuration. One day you just "get it" and
wonder why you were making it so difficult on yourself.
Using sipX to configure the Audiocodes gateways is OK for very generic
installations but to do anything advanced you'll probably want to do
the manual configuration.

What I found in learning about these things was that the initial learning curve is murder because the documentation seems to be purposely convoluted. The end result always ended up being way simpler than the docs would have had you believe.
I had to hire a mediant consultant to take a look at mine to find what I was doing wrong. He spent three hours doing what I had basically already done, but with a few minor changes here and there. That's when I learned about the documentation making practically no sense UNTIL you better understand the machine, then it all comes together.
Now I find the machine fantastic, easier to use, very flexible and quite powerful for growth. I don't use the sipx config anymore as I find it much easier to maintain the device on my own. However, I did use the sipx config to initially get the device up and from there manually.
That said Audicodes has a good reputation for not being buggy and the units
I had were well made.
I have to say, not one single hiccup since we've had ours. I bought two used M2K units and both are 100% perfect.
Can't speak for the 1000 units however.
