I've never had to touch that setting. I think the timer starts when the
telco switch connects (as in starts ringing).

It wasn't meant as a comparison. I just never have to fiddle with them once
I set them up, so I really don't run into all this stuff.

Let's not turn this into a gateway manufacturer comparison

Let me rephrase the question:

What happens on you Polycom phone when you dial through your patton FXO
gateway? Does the call timer immediately start when the phone starts
ringing? Does the call timer start when someone answers the phone? If
the former, then that is what I want but can't seem to get the
audiocodes to do. If the latter, then the Patton is doing VAD to
determine when early media should end.
