Rather than guessing as to what is sending what between these different
devices, it might be prudent to get a PCAP on the server port and look at
the individual packets to see what is being sent out of the server for
caller ID.   It might be sending out what you are requesting in the
different flavors, but the other devices may not be able to use them.  I
think a packet capture will remove the mysteries.

We are using a SIP trunk group to Avaya CM via a Session Manager server.  No
analog.

 

I had also tried setting the User's caller ID to the 10 digit number again
for giggles, and it sends only 5 digits still.  I tried setting the number.
The User extension seems to be the only thing that has any real impact.  I
can change a user extension to 7 digits and it works and sends 7 digits.  If
I give the user a 10 digit User extension, it won't send 10.

 

Have you confirmed you are sending 10 digits out with your caller ID?

you failed to explain what type of gateway you are using. That has
EVERYTHING to do with it. An analog gateway CANNOT do it, a PRI can only if
the carrier has it allowed. siptrunks depend on the provider.

 

For grins and giggles remove the callerid from group and gateway and set a
10 digit number on a user CALLERID field. If your trunk provider allows it,
it should send all 10 digits.

The extension is 12099.  In the gateway, I selected "Transform Extension",
added caller ID prefix 40425, and tried first with 0 (keep all digits), and
then with 5 specified.  I even tried using this page with fewer prefix
digits, but it's as though they are ignored.

 

It still sent only 5 digits.

this should work: 5digit extensions, lets say yours is 85060

you want caller id out to be 404-778-5060

leave caller id blank in user (and group)

in gateway, (sip gateway as an example, if you have an analog, it might be
the problem) and I think I have used 10 digit users without any problems.
in gateway, under caller id, advanced settings:

leave default caller id blank.
select 'transform extension', in caller id prefix, put in 40477
keep digits, 0 or 5 should be ok.

(ps, it takes about 2 mins for this to be active.  call your cell phone to
test :-)
