The audible delay presents the user with a visible only ring for 4-5 seconds before it becomes audible. If that is because the phone is parsing the "audible" type first, it may be well worth abandoning until polycom configurations can parse without delay. I think the answer to your question though would be to provide a list of IP's (or have the system gather them from its gateways) to select which ones are "external" so the proxy could handle the alert message and send it accordingly (since this function "is" part of the proxy. I for one don't use it because it shortens the audible ring and causes users to question if it works properly because of the noticeable delay.
