Andrew,

There are very good smartphone apps.  Counterpath has Bria and there is
also the freely available csipsimple for Android.  From a tablet
perspective both also function there and Counterpath has Bria for iPhone
and iPad as well.  I'm currently beta testing the latest Bria for Android
which now supports bluetooth and also the new Bria for Android Tablet
(which doesn't support bluetooth...  dumb).  Bria for iPad is excellent as
well.

Samsung has their Galaxy Player that does not have a cell radio in it but
still has wifi, bluetooth and gps.  This unit also has a replaceable
battery and can function quite nicely as a wifi phone.
