Hi Bernard,

Again, provided I wipe the disk clean before using SystemImager,
installation works very smoothly. The disk is a 36 GB SCSI disk
connected to a LSI1030 controller with firmware MPTBIOS-IME-5.04.06.

So I guess you upgraded your client's SystemImager to 3.7.3, re-ran
si_prepareclient, copied the kernel/initrd.img to your imageserver and
it still doesn't work? Which SystemImager packages did you upgrade?
You need to upgrade at least systemimager-client, systemimager-common
and systemimager-x86_64initrd_template.

On the client I erased (rpm -e) all these 3 SystemImager 3.6.3 RPMs.
Then I installed the 3.7.3 RPMs, ran si_prepareclient on the client,
and finally ran si_getimage on the server.

What version of SystemImager are you running on the imageserver?

The server is still running 3.6.3. I copied kernel, initrd.img and
boel_binaries.tar.gz from the client to the PXE boot server,
and the new image.master script from the server. I have to admit that the
DHCP/PXE/TFTP server is a separate server (can't have too many DHCP
servers on the same net without being *extremely* careful :-), but
I am fairly confident that it is serving the 3.7.3 files to the client
in question.

I'll test this out and get back to you.

Thanks a lot. Would this issue be specific to the particular IBM
hardware ? We don't have any problems at all with our other PC
nodes containing ATA disks, using older versions of SystemImager,
even when the /dev/hda disk already has a partition table.

I guess I don't understand at all why "parted" has troubles in the
first place with the /dev/sda disk containing a partition table -
could this be a bug in parted ? The parted.c source code throws
this error when the function ped_device_is_busy() returns non-zero,
which I guess means that the disk is already mounted - but how
could that possibly come about ?

Maybe SystemImager should wipe hard disks by DBAN (http://dban.sourceforge.net/)
prior to running parted :-)

Best regards,
Ole
