So, all the filesystems are correctly mounted? are you using monitoring stuff? maybe your client is hanging (it's hanging if I've understood well, right?) because it's not able to reach the monitor server... have you checked the firewall on your image server if it's able to accept connections on port 8181? otherwise if you're not using monitoring the problem is elsewhere...
