Thanks to you all for all the answers. I think I will use the full screen
mode instead of presentation mode, if it works well with a projector (I
always use the dual screen mode, not the mirror mode). I also like the
sidebars popping in, it's a great idea indeed (and I agree with James, it
would be even better if they were not visible, I suppose).
There is however one little snag with this approach: when I switch to
another app and then back to skim, the document in presentation mode appears
in second position, i.e., behind another document. I suppose I could get
around that by having only my slides open in skim though.
