I don’t know what Apple will do. Nobody knew they would make it so much harder
to manipulate preferences manually. Perhaps they will make the files in
Preferences completely obsolete in the future. But I doubt that, because that
would mean they would at some point forget all preferences. As for our side, we
will do our part in backwards supporting the bookmarks, because we don’t want
our users to lose the data. However, you should realize that messing with the
files in Preferences was always a hack, even when the system used them much
more transparently.
