Right, this is fixed now...

I needed to have 'Local Horizon' set on the 'Lines' menu <blush>

If no horizon file is specified in Preferences->Chart appearance then
you just get a 'vanilla' flat horizon.

I think the 'Invisible' checkbox should be relabelled though - it is
confusing.
