With all due respect to all, this debate over old software support is both larger than the scope of this list and impossible to "win" to one side or the other. Skype decides what Skype versions to support, I decide what JAWS and Skype versions to support with scripts, users decide what versions of Windows to use while Microsoft decides which Windows versions to support. The best we can do is make our individual decisions based on our own priorities and abilities, and perhaps, avoid assuming that our own priorities and abilities match those of everyone else.

Especially if everything else is serving there particular needs. If Skype is going to support the later versions then I see no need for someone that rarely gets on the computer other than using Skype to put themself in a financial hardship to please everyone else. Maybe when programs that they use on a regular basis start failing on them then it might be time to start looking for a new system until then they are happy with what they have and that is all that matters.
