I am following the thread. :-) Skype Desktop, I think, will not go away soon for several reasons, one being the need to support Windows 7, which I don't think can run the new Skype version. This and the rapid development, i.e., likely changes, in the new Skype version are two reasons I have not tackled scripting it yet. Another is Microsoft's clear intention to minimize the need for scripting for its apps going forward. I base that statement on what I've seen MS do with Skype for Business, formerly known as Lync, within the last year.
As for the accessibility/usability of the new Skype version, I have only briefly examined it so far. It seemed usable, but I did not do enough with it to say that with much authority.
