Seriously, for something of this scale where you're designing
protocols that will need to be done right... it's typical and often
necessary to spend more time on communication than coding.
I'm from the DDIT school, myself. Discussion, documentation,
implementation, testing.
Get the first two done right (and first!) and the last two are just
straightforward engineering.
