Main question: What should a binary Slide release look like?
I understand people want something to download and go. Store issue can be solved without an RDBMS by using tx file store. Prolem is Slide is not standalone and can only be used with a web container.
My suggestion is to have more than one binary release: 1.) a simple war containing all classes needed without integration 2.) one version bundled with latest Tomcat release 3.) other bundled versions based on contributions yet to come
Whatever working close integration of a web server or full J2EE server with Slide is contributed will be part of the release. Among others I could imagine a closer integration into Jetty... Could you imagine contributing to this?
what do you mean with "closer"?
I have a distribution of jetty+slide that is around 2Mb. It's bare minimal, but very fast (boots in two seconds on my machine), but doesn't contain any of the slide admin features (they could work, but I'm not interested in web-based administration since sysadmins are generally against this, they like text-editing over SSH since that's the only thing they trust)
I can donate this distribution in case anybody wants it.
