the archives are not mirrored. the existing releases are already on the mirror sites. there is no pressing need for old releases to be aggressively removed.

some companies have policies that insist on a full release and it's not uncommon for people to need to download the last-but-one-release. removing the last full release is probably a bad idea since it will probably result in significant increases in usage of the (unmirrored) archives.

i'd say a better policy would be to add a strong recommendation (for the new release) onto the website.
