I'm going to disagree here.
I don't think either Calderra or Red Hat is trying to be the Microsoft of
Linux (depending upon how you define 'the MS of Linux'). Microsoft is
characterised by subverting protocols and hiding technical information to
disallow fair competition (among other things). In other words, they want
to win at all costs.
There is no evidence that either RH or Caldera is doing anything like this.

release everything they do as free software. As much as I hate to say it,
if anyone is being stupid, it's Corel with their licensing problems (but
I'm hoping that their problems have been out of ignorance more than
anything).
But as far as RH copying Caldera's installation ... yeah. That's called
competition. It will make both distributions better. I hope that RH's next
installation surpasses Caldera's ... if only to make Caldera try harder and
surpass RH again.
You know, Caldera ripped off RH's packaging system. So what? That's the
point of all this. I hope that RH also learns a bit from Mandrake. And so
forth.
As far as 6.1 sucking ... well, every RH release since 4.2 has pretty much
sucked. It's just managed to piss off different people. I had all sorts of
problems with 6.0, but 6.1 worked brilliantly.
But still ... go Debian :-).

We'll have to agree to disagree. :-)
Redhat's incredibly stupid "keep up with the jones's" graphical
installation program just gives me the pips. Especially since it doesn't
bloody work in my laptop.
The only reason they did it that way was because Caldera did - and they
couldn't be seen lagging behind.
Bah.
Debian or SuSE here I come.
