There's two different things which are commonly refered to as region 0.
1. Players. A region 0 player is one which basically just ignores regions
and plays disks from any region. These differ from the "autoswitching"
players in that the latter actually check the region of the disk you've
inserted and changes to that region. ie, put in a R1 disk, and it becomes
an R1 player. Put in an R3 disk and it becomes an R3 player.
2. Disks. Region 0 disks are disks which will work in any player, regardless
of region. Many non "new-release" are region 0 - this includes many music
disks, X-rated disks, etc.
As for which is better, an R0 player or an autoswitching player, at the
moment it doesnt really make any difference. As yet there are no disks
which will not work in an R0 player, but it's been suggest it's possible
to make one which will not work in one.
