Check your facts, Simon. In fact, more than 50% of the cent per litre cost
of petrol in Australia goe4s direct to the Federal Government - and
_straight_ into consolodated revenue - where it is used for things like
health care, paying the dole, politicians salaries etc etc. It's something
like 50 cents a litre at the moment.
That's not mentioning the 6 cents a litre {remember 3 by 3? Which got
multiplied to 6 by forever?} which the State government takes, supposedly
for sole and direct use on roads and maintanence - then has the nerve to
charge tolls on roads because it can't afford to build new ones.
If this tax on road users were used for ROADS instead of being spread
around everywhere, there'd be
1) Ample decent roads - no more traffic congestion
2) A lot less money for hospitals
3) A lot less money for social security
4) A lot less money for politicians.
Only numbers 4 and maybe 1 are desirable situations.
And this is enough off topic for today - everything else on this is going
into the bit bucket.
