exactly.....my point this whole debate is there is no alternative....and
there is no reason why petrol prices should go up....so the whole boycott
idea is a bloody good one.

You're ignoring the fact (as most greenies/bleeding hearts/commies etc seem
to do) that most of your ideas are completely impractical in the real world.
People need cars. People need to drive to work. People need to get around.
Just because there is no "green" alternative does not mean that those of us
for whom public transport is unavailable or impractical should be made to
suffer.

Of course *everyone* can't take advantage of public transport. That's just
a sad fact, and hopefully will be something that changes in the
future. But it's important to take advantage of alternatives if they are
available. If you drive your big BMW from Waverton to Wynnard every day,
you need a kick in the pants (IMHO).

With Sydney traffic, a pair of blades may actually get you there quicker
;) As I said, the important thing is to do something if you can, and never
pretend that your actions don't have environmental consequences. The more
ubiquitous this mode of thought becomes, the more chance we stand of
heading off a catastrophe, since it's not just transport and cars that
cause pollution ...
