I have an S3 ViRGE card in my home box and it works fine.
I don't run the accelerated driver just the XF86_SVGA. I
run it at 1280x1024 16 bit colour. I was running the S3 accel
driver but the screen wasn't as good, had some patterning
thing happening, I probably had the wrong modeline or
refresh rate for the screen, so I just went back to the
SVGA and it works fine. RH6.2 but I don't think that matters.
Why don't you do an install without X and then grab 4.02
from the nearest Xfree mirror along with the instructions.
I upgraded my work box to 4.0.2, seemed pretty straight
forward if you RTFM. This way you might get some decent
font's and antialiasing happening and probably better
performance thrown in for the price...
