Hello Sluggers,

I was wondering if any of you could help me with a problem I have.

The one reason that I ever really need to boot into Microsucks is to do
my accounting in MYOB version 10.02, and this has to happen on a monthly
basis or whenever I can put up with it, of late , without a doubt every
boot takes about 15 mins because Winsucks 98 has crashed the last time I
used it and the system goes through the usual arrogant (you must shut
down your computer properly) scandisk routine, freeze on boot up, reset,
rescan, recrash, blue screen of death, reset, rescan, recrash, blue
screen of death,... you know the picture.

Now because I have, in a fit of contempt for crappy software, mailed my
Winsucks 1998 disk back to Microsucks with an "insert this into your
smallest orifice you bastards" letter, I can't reload it to make it
work, why? I wish to force the change to Linux on myself for all my
computing needs.

Crunch time has come, the tax man cometh........ AAARRRRGGGH!

What I need your advice on is who has a comprehensive accounting package
on par with MYOB which suits the Australian accounting situation, now it
doesn't have to be graphical because I can happily work without
graphics, although they do ease the pain of data entry.

I have looked at GNUcash but found it a little short in some areas, as
much as I would like to I can't yet program in what I need, I'm still a
newbie with relation to my knowledge of Linux and how to program my
needs of it.

What I have from MYOB data exports is a text database, and I've been
able to build a database with tables to suit in mySQL, but I'm
hopelessly slow at this an need some speed to get the job done for this
quarter..

It would be nice if I could just read the *.dat file that MYOB generates
using MSucks Visual Fox Pro(?) database program and dump it directly
into a package that will seamlessly eat it up and spit out all my
accouting information needs.

I might be able to get the text database into star office and do
something that way but I'm not sure that will be the preferred long term
solution.

Your suggestions and help if you would please.

Regards

Nicholas Tomlin.
